Hope you had a safe journey home and I’m so pleased to hear you had a wonderful time in Bali – thanks for the new suggestions for me too!

My husband and I are nearing the end of six months here in Bali with our two teens. We spent one week in Sanur, two months in Jasri, and are now starting our third month in Lovina. It’s our first trip here. While in Sanur, we couldn’t help but question our decision. Two months on Jasri Beach were all we needed to fall in love with the people, the beaches, the food, the music, the unique life here. Lovina has been a treat, also. We live in the only villa in our little village outside the main. My kids have built some great friendships with local kiddos and are picking up the language quicker than we are. I’m starting to get weepy about leaving. We are from the U.S., so the journey is long. But we’ll be back one day πŸŒΎπŸŒΊπŸ’

Have a fantastic time, Bali is such a great place. Sounds like a great idea doing some day trips and you have everything you could want in Seminyak! Safe travels :)

I’m visiting Bali in November with my partner and I like to do as much research as possible.
Definitely avoiding Kuta as this isn’t the first time I’m hearing not so great things about it. We are staying in Seminyak and have planned a couple of day trips to Ubud & Uluwatu.
I’m pretty optimistic in general so I am very much looking forward to enjoying the beauty Bali has to offer.

It really depends on how bad the rains have got but usually then it shouldn’t be such a problem, people are also actively taking action now – my friends in Canggu have 2x weekly beach cleans now to keep it as beautiful as possible and it has improved since I wrote this piece as far as I know. I’m also going to be there end of November so let me know. Have an amazing time! :)

In general Bali is pretty safe, but do be careful after dark and make sure you use a trusted taxi if going home late in some of the darker spots. It is also pretty common sadly now if you are on a bike for people to pull your bag off you, which then takes you flying off the bike so keep it between your legs and not over your body if possible. You should be grand, just have your wits about you especially around parts of Kuta/Sunset Blvd. Have an awesome time :)

That is exactly what travel should be: Don’t make it worse and contribute where possible.

A year must of been a great insight into life there, can see why you wanted to spend so long in Ubud.

Safe travels!

We lived in Ubud for a year, it is difficult to reconcile many aspects of Bali while being a tourist, questioning if you are helping or hindering by being there. So long as you don’t make it worse and contribute where possible, maybe pass on some information/education when appropriate… A very complex situation with many factors as you mention.
