It IS the cutest city! I too was taken by the vibe there and wished I had planned to stay longer. Berat has a special energy, one that I didn’t expect.

Haha, I can believe the dragonfly would win! It’s such an incredible country isn’t it?

I think for me the reason the car won is so many of the places and moments I loved so much in Albania were not really places you would think to go. The amount of times we would just stop for a coffee at a random gas station and get chatting to people or find our selves somewhere completely alone and just park up in wild beauty. I do agree as my first real road trip I missed having as much interaction as I normally would with the locals but as a photographer and someone who is happiest completely lost, the freedom to stop every five minutes anywhere at all was amazing – especially in a country where so much of it hasn’t been written about.

100% doable without the car though, would never want that to put people off visiting.

I don’t agree you need to hire a car. It may take some fathoming out but there are buses and minibuses travelling all over the place. They are really cheap but you get to meet the locals and be part of local life. The few trains are an experience. We got outpaced by a dragonfly, but hey! It’s Albania. Sit back and enjoy the view. If public transport just isn’t there when you want it taxis are cheap and easily available or your accomodation host will usually sort you out with a lift.

And me screaming “I am not moving this fucking car EVER AGAIN”, followed by another attempt to move it anyway 2 minutes later cause he just wouldn’t go away :D #0/10ForBeingAWomanOfMyWord hahaha :) Thanks once more, it was the best road trip ever!! :)
